Andrea Barron, TASSC’s Advocacy Coordinator, will be holding a second Advocacy Workshop on Wednesday, May 25 from 1:00-2:30 pm to prepare for June Survivors Week and Advocacy Day (June 23) on Capitol Hill. We had a terrific turn-out at the May 4 Advocacy Meeting -- more than a dozen survivors wrote letters to Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland thanking him for sponsoring Senate Resolution 432 on human rights and inclusive governance in Ethiopia. This Resolution can also be used to encourage Congress to speak out on human rights abuses in other countries.
Andrea will be delivering the letters to Senator Cardin’s staff in person on May 17.
On May 25, survivors will be encouraged to write letters to Senator Marco Rubio from Florida, the Republican sponsor of this bill. You may remember that Marco Rubio was one of the candidates for president who dropped out of the race last month.
We will also discuss problems survivors experience because of the long wait for asylum interviews.
