Career Development Coordinator
Part-time / 24 hours per week
6-month contract (continuation dependent on funding)
We are looking for a motivated and passionate Career Development Coordinator to join TASSC’s Social Services team. This role will report to the Social Services Program Manager, and will coordinate all of TASSC’s career development activities. Finding meaningful employment is often reported as a top priority of TASSC survivors. As such, this role plays a critical part in helping survivors gain self-sufficiency and rebuild their lives in the United States.
We are looking for someone who is highly organized with tremendous attention to detail. Excellent communication, listening and editing skills will be necessary for this role.
Conduct individual and group intakes with survivors to determine their short and long-term career goals;
Assist survivors with the creation of individualized career development plans related to survivors’ short and long term goals;
Develop and cultivate relationships with local employers to develop direct pathways to employment for TASSC survivors;
Coordinate TASSC’s Professional Mentorship Program – recruit local professionals, provide orientations, match professionals with survivors, conduct routine check-ins with mentors and mentees, and collect data and feedback related to the program;
Attend and participate in meetings as required, including regular weekly staff meetings and other meetings necessary to carry out the mission of the organization;
Develop documents, procedural manuals and other materials related to career development;
Recruit, train and manage a group of undergraduate-level workforce volunteers;
Communicate relevant industry trends and employment needs to management and develop program response as needed;
Prepare survivors for job interviews through mock interviews and coaching exercises;
Develop bi-monthly workforce newsletters; send out regular communication to survivors on employment and training opportunities;
Keep well-organized database of employer records and individual survivors’ case notes;
Plan employment workshops, hiring events and education fairs;
Other duties as required.
Undergraduate degree in Social Services or a related field of study, from an accredited university;
A minimum of two years experience working with people who have barriers to employment;
A minimum of two years experience working in a collaborative nonprofit working environment;
Experience with Mail Chimp and volunteer management systems;
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Proficiency with resume and cover letter writing, and using job search engines;
Experience conducting group workshops or trainings for job readiness skills;
Flexibility and willingness to work in situations of flux;
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Ability to use creativity and enthusiasm to motivate people;
Ability to establish partnerships with local businesses and community organizations;
Good record-keeping skills to accurately track attendance and program participation;
Ability to tailor learning activities to meet group needs;
Ability to manage competing priorities and adhere to strict deadlines;
Multicultural sensitivity and ability to provide culturally responsive services to a diverse immigrant population;
Demonstrated commitment to TASSC’s mission.
